Audi Hybrid Q5 compact SUV is officially official, world premiere at LA Motor Show
The much talked about and awaited Audi hybrid Q5 compact SUV has finally been officially revealed. The vehicle is to make its world premiere at LA auto show this year. With the official release, however, there emerge some new details. The compact SUV has been presented as a full hybrid and it will be able to run on gasoline engine as well as electric motor independently, while both can be combined for the better performance.
Expected to hit the market in 2011, the Audi Q5 will the first compact SUV on the market to use a hybrid powertrain. Though there aren’t confirmed technical details available as of now, but the hybrid SUV is expected to get power from 2.0 liter TFSI engine the generates a moderate delivers 211 hp and 350 Nm of torque – the same powerplant that powers Volkswagen Golf GTI.
Together with the electric motor that gets power from a pack of lithium-ion battery consisting of 72 cells and generates 34hp, the total power tally goes to 245hp and ensures satisfying level of performance. The electric motor is to power the Q5 up to 3km at a constant speed of 60km/h and the vehicle is expected to have a top speed of 100km/h.
There will be three mode of modes in the vehicle that driver can select from: EV, D and S. Herein, EV stands for total electric mode for towns, D stands for standard mode and S is for support. And, the combined cycle of cycle fuel consumption is announced under 7 liters per 100 km, which also corresponds to 160 g / km in terms of CO2 emissions. However, these figures remain the preliminary values and real thing will only come out with its commercialization in 2011.
Other features of the vehicle include unique 19-inch wheels, the grille is finished in gloss black, and Q5 hybrid will be recognizable by its logo applied to the rear and front fenders. Whereas inside, the instrumentation is a notable change, tachometer is replaced by an indicator of power usage, and engine temperature by a battery level. The multimedia system with navigation series, displays the mode and energy flows.
